According to the Treasury Department, from 1776-2000, the first 224 years of U.S. history, 42 U.S. presidents borrowed a combined $1.01 trillion from foreign governments and financial institutions, but in the past four years alone, the Bush administration borrowed $1.05 trillion.

This is a fact from early 2005. After this was published, the deficit for FY 2005 was an additional $760 billion.
Too bad everyone didn’t get the real facts when this was highlighted on Digg today. The number is closer to $2.8 trillion now, almost 3 times the combined debt prior to year 2000.
