Map it with 1-800-GOOG-411 - New feature!!

1-800-GOOG-411 has added a new feature - the ability to get maps of the businesses that you’re looking for texted to your mobile device. All you need to do is call the number, say “map it”, and the text message will come to you with a map of what you’re looking for right there on your phone. It’s an easy way to figure out where you need to go.

Looks like Google is assuming that those wanting a map image can access the web from their phones (which kind of defeats the purpose of goog411). Would have been better to do MMS/picture messaging.

Given that, wouldn’t it make more sense to tie this in with Google Maps Mobile? Aside from the fact that there are still a number of mobile phones out there that cannot go to a URL sent via SMS, the map itself is little more than a tiny square image that’s difficult to navigate. Tie it in with GMaps and not only can you get a far better idea of the location, but you can also get driving directions and traffic info.
